It started with a lawn mower and a dream…

Total Lawn Care & More was founded in June of 2010 by Dan Thornberg while he was attending Southern Connecticut State University as a sophomore. Dan would spend his weekends knocking on doors to try and drum up business while cutting lawns by himself during the week. The first year was slow and included a steep learning curve. Between equipment breakdowns, Dan not owning a truck, and trying to find a good part-time employee, starting a business proved to be quite the challenge.

In 2012, TLC finally reached a milestone of 25 weekly lawn customers. A year later, the company purchased its first competitor and grew to 50 weekly customers. Two years later in 2015, a second company was purchased using a bank loan to double the company’s size again.

Total Lawn Care has since grown to be Milford’s premier landscaping and snow management outfit. The company currently employs 18 people and services both residential and larger corporate contracts. TLC specializes in lawn maintenance, landscape installations, mulching, cleanups, and commercial snow plowing. Total Lawn Care just celebrated its 15-year anniversary… hard work and perseverance really does pay off!

In Memory of Dante Hayden

TLC hired its first employee, Dan’s friend Dante Hayden, in 2011. The company would not have survived its first two years without Dante’s dedication and faith in Dan and his vision. Without Dante’s help in those difficult early years, the company would not be here today. Total Lawn Care’s continued growth and success is dedicated to Dante Hayden and his legacy within the Milford community.
