Spring Cleanup and Mulching in Milford, CT

This yard had a great starting point—some healthy plants, nice bed lines, and a solid layout. But like most properties coming out of winter, it needed a good cleanup and a few thoughtful upgrades to really shine.

We kicked things off by trimming back dead perennial growth and giving the hydrangeas a careful hand-prune. Up front, we removed a dead holly bush and replaced it with a new upright holly to bring some life and structure back to the bed.

The biggest change happened behind the garage, where we created a brand-new garden bed. We shaped the space, removed the grass, brought in fresh garden mix, and planted a custom selection of shrubs and perennials to fill it out. Everything was watered in well to help it get established.

From there, we cleaned out the existing mulch beds, cut in crisp edges, applied pre-emergent to keep weeds down, and spread up to 9 yards of organic brown mulch to give the whole yard a clean, finished look.

In the backyard, we tackled some compacted bare spots near the playground—tilling the soil, adding topsoil, spreading seed, and covering it with mulched hay to protect the new growth.

This wasn’t a full overhaul—it was a smart refresh that brought out the best in the existing landscape.
